To renew your Indiana notary commission you must:

  • Complete a notary course administered by the Indiana Secretary of State.

  • Complete a renewal application and a test on the Indiana Secretary of State's website
  • Pay an $18.75 state filing fee.

Step 1:

Complete an online notary course offered by the Indiana Secretary of State

Every time you renew your Indiana notary commission, you are required to take an online notary course The course is administered by the Indiana Secretary of State.


Step 2:

Order your Indiana eight-year, $25,000 notary bond from the American Association of Notaries.

During the online notary application process you will be asked to upload a copy of the eight-year, $25,000 Indiana notary bond. The cost of the eight-year $25,000 notary bond is only $75. Your $25,000 Indiana notary bond includes a $5,000 errors and omissions insurance policy for your protection at no extra cost. Click on the “Add to Cart” button below to purchase the bond. Step 3:

Complete the online notary application and the notary exam.

Go to the Indiana Secretary of State’s website to start the notary application process. A non-refundable application fee of $18.75 must be paid at the end of the application process. The application wizard will guide you step by step to help you complete the online notary application. You will be asked to upload a copy of the Indiana notary bond and a sample of the signature that you will use each time you notarize a document. Part of the application process is passing a thirty-question test with a score of 80% or better. Taking the online course offered by the Secretary of State will help you answer most of the questions. At the end of the application process, you will be provided with a link to download your notary commission certificate.
